Heathrow Airport limits the number of passengers to 100,000.

Heathrow will limit the number of departing passengers to just 100,000 a day during the summer as Britain’s biggest airport struggles to cope with huge travel demands.

This restriction will apply starting today until September 11. The airport has told airlines to “stop selling tickets to limit passengers”.

Tens of thousands of passengers in the UK have been affected by these restrictions in recent weeks.

Airports and airlines, which cut jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, have struggled to recruit staff as demand for vacations has returned.

Heathrow boss John Holland-Kaye said action was needed to ensure reliable journeys for passengers.

“During the last few weeks, since the number of departing passengers has regularly exceeded 100,000 per day. Our estimate is that the maximum number of daily departing passengers that airlines, airline ground operators and the airport can collectively serve during the summer is no more than 100,000,” said Holland-Kaye.
