The American senator warns of an attack on NATO territory

USA

Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio expressed concern about the possibility of an attack on NATO territory by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I think it’s very possible that it will end up hitting some of these distribution points where supplies are coming in, including inside Poland. There’s a lot of talk about nuclear, but I think the thing I’m most worried about is a Russian attack inside NATO territory, for example, targeting the airport in Poland or some other distribution point,” he said.

Asked if NATO would have to respond, he said it would “depend” on the nature, scale and scope of an attack. Rubio suggested that the risk of a nuclear attack by Putin is “higher today than it was a month ago,” but that he is more concerned about the “intermediate” steps Putin might take.

Rubio also suggested that Russia was responsible for the Nord Stream gas pipeline attacks last week.

“I think it’s pretty clear, somebody did it, and the only people in that region who have the motive and the ability to do it are Russia or Russian forces. So I think it’s not a matter of intelligence at this point. It is a matter of common sense,” he said.
