Iran denies having provided Russia with weapons

Iran has rejected again the accusations that it has supplied Russia with weapons “to be used in the war in Ukraine”, its foreign ministry said today.

Kiev and much of the West have accused Moscow of using Iranian-made drones in attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks.

And this topic is expected to be discussed by the foreign ministers of the European Union at a meeting today in Luxembourg.

In a statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian “stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not have and will not provide any weapons to be used in the war in Ukraine.”

“We believe that arming each side will prolong the war,” the Iranian foreign minister said in a phone call with his Portuguese counterpart, Joao Gomes Cravinho.

“We have not considered and we do not consider war as the right way neither in Ukraine, nor in Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen.”

In a separate phone call with EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Friday, Amir-Abdollahian reiterated Iran’s official stance of neutrality over the war that began nearly eight months ago.
