174 victims from stadium riots in Indonesia

At least 174 people have been killed and 180 injured after riots erupted at a soccer stadium in Indonesia.

Riots broke out after a game the home team lost, with disgruntled fans storming the pitch and police firing tear gas in an attempt to control the situation.

34 people died at the Kanjuruhan Stadium and the rest were hospitalized. 180 people were injured, authorities said. Among the killed were two policemen.

A police spokesman later announced that 129 people had died in one of the world’s deadliest sports stadium disasters. The director of the hospital told local television that one victim was five years old.
