Real Madrid started the year 2023 with a loss, Los Blancos were surprised by Villarreal with a score of 2-1 nv in the 16th round of La Liga.
The Yellow Submarine played a good match, imposing its game on Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
The match started with the locals in the fifth minute by Francis Coquelin, while after ten minutes it was Karim Benzema who threatened the goal for the guests. Vinicius Junior tried in the 40th minute, but Pepe Reina did not allow him to shake the net and the first half ended goalless.
The second half started with Yeremy Pino’s goal (47′), but it didn’t take long and Benzema equalized from the penalty spot in the 60th minute.
But, the locals returned the lead with Gerard Moreno in the 63rd minute. Real, with several substitutions, tried to reverse the result, but failed.
After this loss, the team from Madrid ranks in second place with 38 points (as much as Barcelona with one game less), while Villarreal is in fifth position with nine points less.
Real’s next match is against Athletic Bilbao, while the Yellow Submarine plays as a guest of Celta Vigo.
