Verstappen wins F1 race in Baku – complete failure for Ferrari

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has won the Formula 1 race in Baku. Second in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was his teammate Sergio Pérez.

Already at the start, Pérez was able to pass Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who had started the race from pole. Behind him, Verstappen also put pressure on the Monegasque from the start. On the ninth lap, Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz finally retired due to a defect. Ferrari sent Leclerc into the pits for a tire change during the virtual safety car period that followed, while the two Red Bulls remained on the track.

After all the drivers had pitted, Leclerc finally took the lead again. But on the 21st lap, an engine failure on his part finally brought Ferrari’s workday to an early end. Red Bull’s one-two finish was subsequently unchallenged, with Pérez and Verstappen merely swapping places. George Russell (Mercedes) completed the podium in Baku.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri), Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Fernando Alonso (Alpine) and Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) followed in the other places. Lando Norris (McLaren) in ninth place scored two points for the championship standings, Esteban Ocon (Alpine) in tenth place one point. Mick Schumacher (Haas) missed out again on his first championship point in 14th place. The next race will be held in Canada in a week’s time.
