A children’s hospital in the southern port city has been completely destroyed by Russian bombings, according to Mariupol city council.
“Russian invading forces have dropped several bombs on the children’s hospital. “The destruction is colossal,” he said. It is not known if there were any casualties.
Mariupol is surrounded by Russian troops and has been the site of heavy bombardment for days. This has left thousands without food, water and electricity.
The Red Cross has described the situation as “apocalyptic”, while the deputy mayor claims that 1,200 people have been killed in the city.
Several attempts to evacuate civilians from Mariupol have failed in recent days. There is no evidence that anyone could leave during an agreed ceasefire today.
