Germany Defiant After Drone Incident

The German government has affirmed its resolve not to be intimidated by recent events following the drone incident in Poland.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, responding to inquiries from the dts news agency on Wednesday in Berlin, stated, “I will refrain from speculating on the motivation behind this, but I can clearly state that we will not be intimidated regardless and will act decisively together”. The spokesperson emphasized collaborative action within the NATO framework, underscoring that this is the foundation upon which Germany acts as both an ally and an EU partner.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Sebastian Hille, when asked whether the airspace violation by Russia was an attempt to gauge the military alliance’s preparedness, indicated that the incident highlights the threat environment. He noted that allies are consistently being “tested” describing the current situation as a particularly significant instance, but also referencing recurring incidents in the Baltic Sea that require sustained vigilance.
