The Green Party is demanding an explanation from Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) regarding the confusion surrounding the proposed reform of civil servant salaries. According to Green Party interior policy expert Marcel Emmerich, “Dobrindt’s pay debacle requires a complete clarification”. The initial bill presented by the Federal Interior Ministry included substantial salary increases, even for the highest-ranking civil servants, from which Dobrindt has since distanced himself. Emmerich told “Der Spiegel” that the Interior Minister must answer whether he intentionally implemented these raises through his own directives and is now attempting to downplay the situation. He suggested that “perhaps it was an attempt to make it unnoticed and approve it quietly”. The Green Party parliamentary representative insisted that the Interior Minister must immediately disclose the new pay scale and provide a transparent explanation for it. Emmerich concluded that “full transparency is necessary now to restore trust”.
