The political landscape surrounding the “mask affair” continues to draw attention, with Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer publicly expressing his support for Jens Spahn, the parliamentary group leader of the CDU and former Federal Minister of Health.
Speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, Kretschmer highlighted Spahn’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the significant responsibility he shouldered and the challenging decisions he made while navigating the nation through an unprecedented crisis.
Kretschmer commended Spahn’s recent reflections on the period, characterizing them as open, self-critical and ultimately conciliatory, qualities he described as indicative of “strength and an awareness that we all must learn from this experience”. The CDU’s Deputy Chairman affirmed his respect and complete backing for Spahn’s perspective.
