Alexander Throm, the interior spokesperson for the CDU/Union parliamentary group, is demanding tougher measures against those exhibiting anti-Jewish sentiment. Citing a recent poll which indicated that over two-thirds of Jewish communities view Germany as an unsafe country since the Hamas attack on Israel, the CDU politician stressed that the current situation is unacceptable. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” he specifically called for stronger penalties against antisemitism influenced by Islamist groups.
Throm stated that anti-Israel sentiment, which can be observed on German streets, does not constitute legitimate criticism but rather is a form of antisemitism linked to Israel. He warned that any individual who denies Israel’s right to exist should no longer be eligible for naturalization. He stressed the necessity of enforcing existing rules and laws much more rigorously.
While advocating for these stronger measures, Throm also confirmed that the protection offered to Jewish institutions remains high and effective-a standard he said they must regrettably continue to uphold. Furthermore, he reminded the public that, in line with the coalition agreement, a regular process for deporting foreign nationals who commit antisemitic crimes will be implemented. Concluding his remarks, Throm emphasized that the Jewish community deserves the full support and solidarity of the country, especially during this time of heightened vulnerability.
