During the sentencing proceedings at the Hanau Regional Court on Wednesday, a defendant attacked a state prosecutor. The court reported the incident on Thursday. According to the accounts, the defendant, who was restrained with handcuffs, suddenly leapt over his table, rushed toward the prosecutor, and struck her on the head.
Several court officers present immediately reacted. One of the officers stopped the attack by taking the defendant to the detention area and escorting him away from the prosecutor. The defendant was subsequently taken to the holding cell.
The prosecutor sustained a head bruise, a C2/C3 distortion, abrasions on both hands, and bruising on her forearm and wrist. She received medical attention. Additionally, two of the court officers suffered minor injuries.
About an hour after the disturbance, the sentencing could be resumed under police presence. The legal proceedings concluded with a guilty verdict for dangerous and multiple simple assault charges. The chamber decreed a prison sentence and ordered preventive detention.
