Following the fatal drive-through incident in Leipzig, which resulted in two deaths, a large crowd gathered on Tuesday for a memorial service. Hundreds of people attended the event at the St. Pauli University Church (Paulinum), which is located immediately at the scene of the crime in downtown Leipzig. Due to overcrowding, an estimated half of the attendees were unable to participate in the ceremony.
The incident took place the previous day when a 33-year-old Leipzig resident sped through a pedestrian zone in an SUV. During the chaos, the man killed two people and severely injured three others, while dozens of additional people sustained minor injuries. The driver was subsequently apprehended by police. Authorities classified the event as a “mass rampage drive” (Amokfahrt), stating that there was no political or religious motivation behind the act.
