The Israeli army has begun a limited and focused ground offensive against targets in southern Lebanon.
On Monday it reported that the 91st “Galilee” Regional Division launched an attack in the eastern sector of the south, killing several Hezbollah fighters. The operation aims to expand what the army calls a “forward defense zone”.
This offensive is part of a broader plan to create a “buffer zone” and keep Hezbollah’s influence away from the border. Prior to the ground incursion, the army conducted extensive air strikes and artillery fire.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since March 2 the Israeli attacks have killed 850 people and wounded more than 2,100. The army is preparing to station additional troops in southern Lebanon and further expand the buffer zone.
