Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Brantner stated that the troop withdrawal highlights the danger of basing defense policies on Trump’s leadership, and she also questioned the leadership strength of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). According to Brantner, Merz has provided nothing more than indecision and evasion-both when addressing Washington and when discussing Europe. She emphasized that Germany urgently requires a “clear course” demanding increased European cooperation and the decisive establishment of a common European defense structure.
