AfD Drops Bid for New Party Headquarters in Berlin

According to a media report, the AfD has shelved attempts to buy a representative property for its national headquarters in Berlin. Instead, the party is expected to rent new office space in the capital until the fall, reports “Stern” and RTL/ntv.

The preferred rental property is a commercial complex near Jannowitz Bridge, a much more central location than the party’s current federal office in Berlin‑Reinickendorf. After disputes with the landlord, the AfD will have to vacate that premises by the end of the year.

Federal treasurer Carsten Hütter told “Stern” and RTL/ntv that an intensive search examined nearly 30 potential purchase sites, yet none satisfied the requirements set by the AfD’s federal board.

Earlier this year the party had negotiated the purchase of two properties close to Anhalter Bahnhof and Spittelmarkt, but those talks were terminated in February at the direction of the federal board. The reasons cited were concerns over security, insufficient parking and the high price.
