According to a survey conducted by the opinion research institute Insa for “Bild am Sonntag”, statements made by the federal government regarding migration policy are met with broad skepticism among the public.
The poll showed significant doubt concerning Friedrich Merz’s (CDU) assertion that “large parts” of the migration problem have already been solved. Only eleven percent of respondents agreed with this assessment, while a substantial 78 percent disagreed, and eleven percent made no statement. Merz’s claim received only limited support even among CDU/CSU voters, where about one in five agreed, and 73 percent disagreed.
Similarly critically viewed was a statement from labor minister Bärbel Bas (SPD), who claimed, “Nobody is moving into our social systems”. Twenty percent of respondents agreed with this statement, but 57 percent disagreed. Twenty-three percent of those surveyed provided no answer or statement of opinion. Even within the SPD base, skepticism was the prevalent mood: 45 percent of SPD supporters disagreed with Bas, while 35 percent supported her claim.
Insa surveyed a total of 1,003 people on May 7th and 8th, 2026, for “Bild am Sonntag”.
