The SPD parliamentary group has signalled its opposition to Federal Minister of Economics Katharina Reiche’s (CDU) plans to cut subsidies for small solar installations.
Vice‑chairman of the SPD faction, Armand Zorn, told the “Rheinische Post” that rooftop photovoltaic systems have a future “everywhere in the country”. He added that in Bavaria and Baden‑Württemberg, solar panels are a key element for many homeowners looking to modernise their buildings and reduce energy costs.
Zorn pointed out that the draft amendment to the renewable‑energy law (EEG) coming from Reiche’s ministry is a “leaked, outdated internal interim version”. He stressed that what matters is not an old working paper, but what can be achieved politically. “For the SPD parliamentary group it is clear: in the coming months we need a major energy package that accelerates the expansion of renewable energies and power grids, strengthens supply security, and noticeably lowers electricity costs for consumers and businesses”.
