King Charles III has been officially announced as the nation’s new sovereign while an official ceremony will be held later.
This procedure is the official confirmation of the new King, who will arrive later in the ceremony.
After the Council of Accession met, Prince of Wales William was the first to sign the proclamation followed by the king’s wife, Camilla.
This is the first time that women have participated in the Accession Council – previously only men participated.
In fact, the ceremony opened with the announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Council President Penny Mordaunt said: “My Lords, it is my sad duty to inform you that Her Majesty, the Most Gracious, Queen Elizabeth II, died on Thursday 8 September 2022, at Balmoral Palace.”
Meanwhile, Charles addressed the nation last night as he spoke about his late mother, who died at Balmoral Palace in Scotland
