The German Armed Forces procurement agency is proactively preparing for the material requirements associated with planned personnel increases within the Bundeswehr. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has expressed ambitions to expand the active military and reserve forces to a total of 460,000 personnel.
Agency President Annette Lehnigk-Emden, speaking to publications within the Funke-Mediengruppe, highlighted the substantial increase in necessary equipment. “We will require significantly more clothing, protective gear and assault rifles” she stated. “We must have these items readily available when personnel join and we are actively working towards that.
This anticipated surge in staffing levels has prompted the procurement agency to initiate discussions with the defense industry. Lehnigk-Emden confirmed that ongoing dialogue has begun, with the agency communicating projected needs to manufacturers. This is intended to ensure the industry is prepared to meet the logistical demands presented by the expansion.
