Germany's Ambassador to Russia in a Diplomatic Showdown

German Ambassador to Russia, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday, according to the Russian news agency Tass. The ambassador was reportedly informed of measures the Russian side would take in response to the “persecution of Russian journalists in Germany”.

Earlier, the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Sacharova, stated that Moscow’s appeals to Germany to change its treatment of media representatives and uphold its commitments to protecting media freedom had been ignored. Sacharova emphasized that the situation not only affected the journalists themselves, but also their families.

The Kremlin has accused Germany of taking steps to force correspondents to prematurely cease their professional activities and leave the country, thereby affecting not only the journalists but also their families.
