German Police Officers Face Increasing Sexualized Abuse at Train Stations

The Federal Police Representative, Uli Grötsch, has spoken out about the alarming rise in verbal and physical assaults against female police officers at German train stations. According to Grötsch, it has become a daily reality for the police to face degrading insults, particularly at train stations. He emphasized that female officers are disproportionately targeted with sexualized harassment, often accompanied by physical attacks, with an increasing number of perpetrators carrying knives.

Grötsch expressed concern that many of the affected police officers do not report the incidents, as they are aware that the prosecution often fails to pursue the cases. He called for a stronger response from the justice system, stressing that each public prosecutor’s office has a responsibility to ensure that representatives of the state are treated with respect. The Federal Police Representative demands that perpetrators of verbal and physical abuse against police officers be held accountable and punished accordingly.
