Warning: Nursing Insurance at Risk of Mass Bankruptcies - Urgent Action Needed

Anne-Kathrin Klemm, chairwoman of the BKK-Dachverband, is urging the new government to stabilize the financial situation of many health insurance funds and quickly increase contribution rates due to the tense financial situation. Klemm said in an interview with Bild (Thursday edition) that further health insurance funds are at risk of falling into financial distress in the coming months. She believes that an increase of 0.15 to 0.2 percent points in the contribution to the long-term care insurance is urgently needed in light of the financial situation, but notes that something must change, as contributors cannot continue to shoulder the entire societal burden. Klemm emphasizes that the financial stability of the long-term care insurance is at stake and criticizes the time-consuming process of convening a commission. She calls for a quick reform to fill the financial gaps and suggests financing non-insurance-related services and COVID-19-related expenses through tax funds in the short term. Klemm advocates for investing more in prevention in the long term, given the demographic changes.
