Saarland Leader Demands Tax Overhaul Hitting Top Earners and Heirs Harder

Anke Rehlinger, the Prime Minister of Saarland and a member of the SPD party, has called upon the ruling black-and-red federal government to implement a tax reform. Rehlinger’s proposal advocates for creating increased contributions from both top earners and inherited wealth.

She told the “Rheinische Post” (Thursday edition) that while immediate “relief” is necessary-something visible to everyone at the gas station or supermarket-a genuine tax reform is crucial. Such a reform must ensure that average and lower incomes have more disposable income while simultaneously guaranteeing financial stability through the absolute wealthy and heirs.

Looking at the path forward, Rehlinger advised the federal government to focus on creating stability, continuing their work, and involving social partners and the constituent states more deeply. She stated that slow, strategic reforms are the appropriate way forward for the federal government.
