Vance called for European states to take a more independent role in international relations and prioritize the interests of their own citizens in terms of security, migration and immigration. The US Vice President also emphasized his love for Europe and its culture, but criticized European political leaders for failing to address 21st-century challenges such as immigration, integration and security. He called on European leaders to take inspiration from Charles de Gaulle, who always prioritized France’s independence from the United States. Vance believes that an independent Europe is not bad for the United States and would be beneficial for the country.
