Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is convinced that the war in Ukraine would automatically end if Russian leader Vladimir Putin died.
Zelensky was a guest on David Letterman’s special show, “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” which was filmed in the Kiev subway, which could occasionally be heard with the sound of trains.
“Suppose Putin catches a cold and dies or accidentally falls out of a window and dies, will the war continue,” Letterman asked the Ukrainian president.
“No, then there would be no war. The authoritarian regime is terrible. There is a big risk that everything can be decided by one person,” Zelensky answered.
“So, when Putin leaves, all institutions stop. Something similar happened in the Soviet Union. Everything stopped. I believe it would be difficult for them without him. Then they would focus on domestic policy, not foreign policy,” added Zelensky during an interview that will be published on Netflix.
Shoumeni asked the Ukrainian president what his plans are after the end of the war.
“I will remain president until we win, and after that I don’t know. I’m not thinking about that right now. I would like to go to the beach. “To be honest, David, I just want to go to the beach when we win the war, I’d really like to drink a beer,” Zelensky said.
