Linnemann Slashing Bürgergeld for Migrant Criminals Demands Tougher State Crackdown

CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann is calling for the state to adopt stricter measures against the abuse of social benefits. In an interview, he specifically demanded that individuals wanted by a police arrest warrant in Germany should be barred from receiving the “Bürgergeld”, or citizen’s basic income. Furthermore, Linnemann criticized a scenario he described as problematic, stating that it cannot be acceptable if people from countries such as Romania and Bulgaria come to Germany, work for only a few short hours, supplement their income, and concurrently engage in illegal, under-the-table work.

On a separate front, Linnemann strongly voiced his opposition to any potential reductions to the parental allowance (“Elterngeld”). He argued that the “Elterngeld” should not be categorized merely as a social benefit. Instead, he characterized it as a commitment-a promise to the young generation and to families in Germany-to not only enable families to form but also to actively support them. According to Linnemann, families are essential for maintaining Germany’s future viability, emphasizing that caution must be exercised regarding this topic to avoid sending an entirely inaccurate signal to society. “Keep your hands off the parental allowance” he urged.

Despite his strong opinions, Linnemann acknowledged that it is expected for a general secretary of a major party to state his personal views. He conceded that ultimately, whatever arrangement is reached must serve as a compromise.
