Muslim Center Ditib Warns of More Attacks Following Memmingen Mosque Incident

Following the attack on a mosque in Memmingen, the Ditib Muslim Association has warned about further attacks targeting Muslims. The association’s General Secretary also expressed disappointment regarding a perceived lack of solidarity. Speaking to “Tagesspiegel”, Ditib General Secretary Eyüp Kalyon stated, “Naturally, this keeps us on high alert. We have children who attend these mosques; it is hard to imagine what this does to parents”. Kalyon also regretted the lack of solidarity, hoping that history will not repeat itself and that politicians will recognize the concerns of Muslims as readily as they do for other religious communities. Regarding the incident in Memmingen, Kalyon commented that “something like this is a signal that you do not belong here”. However, he added that the community members had also experienced self-confidence; they immediately contacted the police. Nonetheless, Kalyon noted that among Muslim people in Germany, there is a fear that worse could happen, and that people could become harmed.
