According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Africa and the subsequent international health emergency declared by the World Health Organization are not expected to have any immediate, explicit impact on Germany.
The ministry’s spokesperson informed the dts Nachrichtenagentur on Monday that the primary focus currently is providing support to the authorities in the Congo and Uganda. This support is being facilitated by declaring the international health emergency, which will improve communication with the local population.
While Germany is fundamentally willing to offer assistance, no official request for help has been made yet. The ministry noted that support could potentially come through institutions such as the Robert Koch Institute or the Bernhard Nocht Institute. For instance, the spokesperson mentioned that mobile laboratories could be provided. However, she reiterated that concrete action awaits an official request; should such a request arrive, Germany would review it favorably.
