Reports suggest that if the AfD were to take power in the state administration of Saxony-Anhalt, sections of the civil service would face potential job instability. According to information from the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, the party already has plans to fill a significant number of positions across the state following a potential victory in the state election in September.
AfD top candidate Ulrich Siegmund told the newspaper that they estimate this number could realistically reach between 150 and 200 jobs. He clarified that these appointments are not limited to key positions for prospective ministers, state secretaries, and their staff. The scope of change also includes levels beneath that, such as management positions within ministries or chief posts in other state agencies.
The underlying intention, Siegmund explained, is to ensure that, in the event of a victory, the government’s policy agenda cannot be obstructed by the existing civil service structure. While citing his experience to suggest that many departmental and section heads in the ministries could be appointed, Siegmund added a cautionary
