Dirk Wiese, the SPD’s parliamentary manager, stated that the governing parties have regrouped and are once again operating with a unified direction following the last coalition committee meeting. Speaking to media outlets, Wiese noted that the coalition has “regained its momentum” and must maintain this constructive work ethic to achieve political deliverables before the summer recess.
He confirmed that the CDU/CSU and the SPD intend to harmonize on a comprehensive reform package before the summer break. This proposed package aims to address major areas, specifically tax policy, the labor market, the pension system, and the reduction of bureaucracy. According to Wiese, the discussions held during the coalition committee were highly productive, resulting in the development of solutions that the parties feel are essential for the country’s future.
Furthermore, the SPD politician added that timelines have now been established for key modernization projects. To ensure the reforms gain widespread acceptance, a dialogue with social partners has also been agreed upon.
