Federal Coalition Drops Plan For 1000 Euro Relief Bonus

The ruling coalition has decided not to pursue the initiative for a so-called “relief premium” of 1,000 euros after its failure in the Bundesrat. According to reports cited by the “Rheinische Post”‘s participant circles, the Coalition Committee reached this consensus on Tuesday evening.

Furthermore, the committee also agreed that Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) will invite social partners to the Chancellery at the beginning of June to hold discussions regarding planned reforms. The sources indicate that both the CDU and the SPD plan to use a subsequent Coalition Committee before the summer break to reach comprehensive agreements on key reform topics, including taxes, the labor market, pensions, and bureaucratic streamlining.
