Katharina Dröge, the Fraktionsvorsitzende (Group Leader) of the Green Party in the Bundestag, expressed doubts about the ability of the black-red coalition to last for the full three years. Speaking to RTL and ntv’s “Frühstart” program on Wednesday, she specifically critiqued Friedrich Merz, stating, “I notice that he cannot work as Chancellor due to his methods”. She argued that his current approach has failed, noting that his habit of operating with ultimatums and deadlines that he himself cannot meet is unsustainable.
According to Dröge, Merz is clearly unable to secure the support of his own government or the designated state prime ministers. She suggested that Merz fundamentally needs to reconsider how he approaches the task if he hopes to stabilize the coalition. On a broader note, she questioned the government’s capacity to last through the entire legislative period. “If Friedrich Merz himself predicts the government will be shaky as Chancellor, then it certainly is” Dröge concluded, although she nevertheless wished for Germany’s democratic stability.
