Greens Slams New Heating Law Calling It A Climate Disaster

Katharina Dröge, the co-leader of the Greens faction, harshly criticized the new heating law proposed by the coalition, labeling it a “disaster and completely irresponsible”. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Thursday, she stated that the move was problematic because the coalition intended to permit the use of heating systems that are detrimental to the climate even beyond the year 2045. This, she argued, represents the official departure of the CDU and SPD from the goal of making Germany climate-neutral by 2045. Dröge claimed that this plan constituted nothing less than a “organized breach” of Germany’s climate goals and an effective abandonment of the existing Climate Protection Act-and it came without warning.

Furthermore, she dismissed the whole proposal as “economically nonsensical”. According to Dröge, the government’s plan would actively stifle the growing heat pump market and continue to inflate costs for everyone. The Federal government presented the draft of the new building modernization law late Tuesday evening.
