Greens Leader Criticizes Conservative Coalition For Faltering Reform And Future Direction

Franziska Brantner, the Chairwoman of the Green Party, criticized the current black-red governing coalition for lacking necessary reform drive and a clear vision for the future. Speaking on the ntv program “Pinar Atalay” she stated that while Germany is at best “somewhat managed, but certainly not shaped for the future”. Although the Ampel coalition faced disputes upon formation, Brantner considered the new arrangement still below expectations.

According to Brantner, the focus should shift away from assigning blame between the SPD and the CDU. Instead, she emphasized the need for a different strategy: “We must focus on how we can move together away from the abyss”. She stressed that decisions should be based on concrete tasks for the country, rather than on electoral polls or the pursuit of general “chancellor credentials”. Achieving a sense of “common purpose” is only possible through this approach, she added, as the current political dynamic is dangerously eroding public trust.

While criticizing the status quo, Brantner also affirmed the Greens’ readiness to collaborate on specific, concrete projects. She noted, “We are developing good concepts that we will continue to submit to the government”. The Green Party is open to supporting initiatives related to state modernization, digitalization, and infrastructure, and even constitutional amendments. “We will help where it makes sense” Brantner said, though she quickly clarified that replacing the entire government was not the Green Party’s role.
