Leipzig Police Apprehend 33-Year-Old Suspect After Downtown Pedestrian Zone Drive

The police confirmed on Monday evening that the suspect, who allegedly drove a vehicle through a pedestrian zone in central Leipzig, is a 33-year-old German citizen. According to officials, enforcement officers successfully stopped the man in his vehicle, and the public prosecutor ordered his arrest. He is currently in police custody.

The incident resulted in severe casualties: two deaths have been confirmed, and the number of injuries is currently unquantifiable. Emergency services reported two critically injured individuals, alongside twenty other people affected by the event.

Authorities have established a full exclusion zone around the affected area in the city center, blocking all access to Grimmaische Straße between Augustplatz and Thomaskirchhof.
