Sporting Braga defeated SC Freiburg 2-1 in the first leg of the Europa League, securing the victory only during added time.
Braga started the match on the front foot, taking the lead early in the 8th minute when Demir Tiknaz netted from a rapid combination in the penalty area. However, Freiburg quickly responded, preventing Braga from celebrating for long. The score was leveled in the 16th minute when Vincenzo Grifo executed a perfectly played counter-attack to make it 1-1.
The remainder of the match was tightly contested, featuring few clear chances. Just before halftime, Braga had a prime opportunity to regain the lead, but Rodrigo Zalazar missed a penalty due to a foul in 45th+2 minutes, awarded by Freiburg’s goalkeeper, Noah Atubolu.
The second half remained largely dull, with Freiburg defending smartly and Braga controlling the ball but struggling to create significant threats. At multiple points, the game seemed destined for a draw.
The defining moment arrived just before the final whistle. In the 2nd minute of added time, Mario Dorgeles reacted quickest to a defensive save by the goalkeeper, slotting home from close range to make it 2-1. This crucial goal gives Braga a favorable starting position for the return leg.
