Katerina Poladjan was awarded the Leipzig Book Fair prize in the fiction category for her book “Goldstrand”. The jury announced this on Thursday, the fair’s first day.
In the non‑fiction category, Marie‑Janine Calic was honored for “Balkan Odyssey 1933‑1941 – Running Away from Hitler through Southeast Europe”. The best‑translation prize went to Manfred Gmeiner for “Unten leben”, a rendition from Spanish of Gustavo Faverón Patriau.
Since 2005, the Leipzig Book Fair prize has recognized outstanding new German‑language releases. The award carries a total of 60 000 €; winners receive 15 000 € each, while nominees receive an additional 1 000 € each.
