After the United States partially lifted sanctions on Russian oil, BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht urged the German government to resume importing oil from Russia. “If the U.S. buys Russian oil because it is less dependent on its own production, Germany should do it as soon as possible” she told the newspapers of the Funke Media Group’s Saturday edition.
She slammed Chancellor Friedrich Merz, calling his criticism of this move “the cold arrogance of a multimillionaire who has no such worries” and said that Germans should once again turn to Russian oil from Schwedt and introduce a fuel‑price ceiling of 1.50 euros per litre.
Wagenknecht added that the federal government must cut the value‑added tax to 7 %, abolish the CO₂‑tax, reduce the energy tax, and curb the shameless profiteering of the oil industry. Only then could the 1.50‑euros‑per‑litre cap be enforced. At the moment fuel prices are already above 2 euros per litre.
