Iran carried out another attack on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. According to the semi‑state-run Iranian news agency Fars, citing the Revolutionary Guards, a merchant vessel flying the Thai flag was fired upon after it ignored warnings and attempted to cross the strait “illegally”. A second ship, registered under the Liberian flag, was also struck by Iranian projectiles after it disregarded the same warnings.
The UK Maritime Tragedy Office (UKMTO), responsible for maritime safety in the region, reports that since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East on 28 February there have been at least 13 incidents involving attacks on vessels in the area, with three of those occurring on Wednesday.
