At the start of the 25th round in the 2. Bundesliga, league leaders Schalke 04 kept their narrow advantage by winning 1-0 over Arminia Bielefeld. The match was decided early when Edin Džeko converted a corner in the 15th minute, giving Schalke the only goal of the game. Throughout the match Schalke had several chances to extend their lead-including opportunities from Kenan Karaman (latte) and Timo Becker-but the score remained unchanged. In the closing stages Bielefeld pushed harder; Joel Grodowski appeared to score, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
In the simultaneous fixture at Spiesen-Elversberg, SV Elversberg edged FC Magdeburg 1-0. The decisive goal came in the 85th minute when Lukasz Poreba fired a precise shot into the lower right corner. Magdeburg’s attempts to equalise in stoppage time were thwarted, and Elversberg held on for the win, settling for a second-place finish on the table.
Schalke’s victory keeps them two points clear of Elversberg, who now ranks second in the standings.
