Nouripour Pushes Stronger Protection for German Soldiers in the Middle East

Vice President of the Bundestag Omid Nouripour, a member of the Green Party, said he supports stronger protection for German soldiers in the Middle East. He told RTL and ntv that German troops who were attacked-though not personally-are being shielded as well as possible in the locations where they were, such as northern Iraq. Nouripour added that Germany must also determine how best to intensify its own efforts in those areas.

He noted that France recently moved an aircraft carrier to the Mediterranean to demonstrate a significant presence with minimal effort, and Britain has also stepped up, deploying helicopters for drone‑defense missions. According to Nouripour, the goal of France and Britain is not to involve themselves directly in the conflict but to safeguard their own interests and personnel. He emphasized that we should act in a similar manner, underscoring that there may not be an urgent need to dispatch a ship anywhere at present.
