Bundesbildungsministerin Karin Prien (CDU) called for a factual and age‑appropriate approach to the Iran war when it is taught in German schools.
“Especially in times of international crises, the classroom is a crucial space for sorting out and orienting” Prien told the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday. “Children and adolescents are confronted daily with images and messages from news outlets, social media and their personal surroundings that can be difficult to place-and often hard to endure”.
She emphasized that a “well‑informed, pedagogically supported lesson” should not leave young people to face their fears alone. “Teachers play an indispensable role” she said, “providing a forum for questions and strengthening students’ ability to make critical judgments”.
Prien added that democratic education also means enabling young people to verify information, spot propaganda, and tolerate differing viewpoints. “Therefore we must encourage teachers to discuss current world events truthfully, in an age‑suitable manner, and based on our liberal‑democratic values” she explained.
