During the U.S. military operation against Iran, the Pentagon announced on Sunday that three American soldiers had been killed. Five additional troops were reported seriously wounded, and several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions.

Combat was still ongoing, and the Pentagon said the U.S. forces are actively responding. The situation remains fluid, and in consideration of the families involved, further details-including the identities of the fallen soldiers-will not be released until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified.

It is unclear exactly how the soldiers were killed. Iran has targeted U.S. bases in the region in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli attacks that began on Saturday. President Donald Trump warned in an early‑Saturday video briefing that U.S. troops could be killed during the operation.
