German Inflation Drops to 1.9 Percent in February

Germany’s yearly rise in consumer prices slowed once more in February 2026. The federal statistical office reported an inflation rate of 1.9 %, down from 2.1 % in January. Compared with the previous month, prices were expected to have increased by 0.2 % in the second month of the year.

Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, remained stronger, at 2.5 %. That figure is still noticeably higher than the headline rate.

Breaking down the contributions, energy prices fell 1.9 % from the same month a year earlier. Food prices climbed 1.1 %, while the cost of services rose 3.2 %.
