Sven Schulze Demands Lifetime Stadium Bans for Rioters in East Germany

After the latest outbreaks of violence in eastern German football stadiums, Saxony‑Anhalt’s new Minister President Sven Schulze (CDU) has called for lifetime bans from stadiums, citing the British model.

“I have no understanding of how the chaos unfolded, with troublemakers throwing manhole covers at our police and hurling paving stones” Schulze told Bild am Sonntag.

The increasing violence and the higher police presence make the current security strategy inadequate. Schulze urged both the German Football League (DFL) and the German Football Association (DFB) to provide “clear solutions”.

He explicitly referenced the strict regulations in England: “I am a big fan of the Premier League. If someone behaves in that manner there, they receive a lifetime stadium ban. Nothing else is possible”. He also stressed the need for “tightened controls at stadium entrances”.
