The truth about the ‘ ID card found on the Crimea bridge’

The full fallout from the Kerch bridge explosion in Crimea has yet to unfold, despite a series of devastating Russian missile attacks on cities across Ukraine, perceived as retaliation.

The explosion along the Kerch Strait that connects the Russian mainland with the illegally annexed peninsula is another obstacle to Putin’s efforts to establish control in Ukraine, although the Ukrainian authorities have not taken responsibility for the incident.

As speculation continues about the incident, a rumor surfaced online suggesting that the “possible culprit” had been found.

Several posts, published on October 8, 2022, suggested that a Ukrainian identity card was found at the site of the Kerch bridge attack.

But, the claim is false. This is because the ID is not authentic and has been used repeatedly throughout the conflict in Ukraine to spread disinformation.

The man in the photo is thought to be Sam Hyde, a right-leaning comic whose image has been appropriated on a number of occasions in a number of hoax stories and claims.
