A routine disturbance call in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf escalated into a violent confrontation on Friday morning, leaving seven police officers injured and a suspect hospitalized after being shot by officers. The initial report, received around 6:00 AM on December 26th, indicated several individuals were causing a disturbance within a multi-family residential building on Erich-Kästner-Straße, reportedly knocking on doors and creating unrest. Upon entering the building’s stairwell, responding officers reported being immediately confronted by a group of aggressive individuals who allegedly attacked them.
The situation rapidly deteriorated when, according to police accounts, a 19-year-old man emerged from the group wielding a pointed object, suspected to be a knife and advanced towards the officers. One officer discharged a firearm, striking the suspect in the leg. He was transported to a hospital for surgery and is currently listed in stable condition, with no immediate life-threatening concerns.
Following the shooting, police detained eight additional suspects, including two 19-year-old males, two 21-year-old males and four women aged 18, 20, 22 and 42. All are currently in police custody facing charges related to aggravated assault on police officers, threats and resisting law enforcement.
