The Bundestag’s Judicial Affairs Committee has put forward Sigrid Emmenegger as a candidate for a position on the Federal Constitutional Court.
The nomination, according to multiple media sources, was approved Monday evening with the necessary two-thirds majority. A formal vote by the full Bundestag is scheduled for Thursday.
This development follows a previous attempt to fill the vacancy that failed prior to the summer recess. Concerns raised within the conservative faction led to the withdrawal of the initial candidate, Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf.
Alongside Emmenegger, Ann-Katrin Kaufhold and Günter Spinner remain in contention for the role. The Thursday vote will determine which of the three candidates is appointed to the Federal Constitutional Court.
