Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced she will entirely forgo the use of social media platforms. In an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” Merkel explained that these platforms do not serve as her sources of information and she does not personally engage with them.
“My sources of information remain newspapers, television programs and online media” she stated. “However, social media platforms are not where I acquire that information”. Merkel confirmed she is not active on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, or Instagram.
Instead, she relies on her official website, which she maintains as a former Chancellor. “When I need to communicate an important message, it’s evident that citizens appreciate and utilize this website. It also provides a direct channel for anyone wishing to contact me” Merkel added.
